African Tulip House
An entire home organized around a tree.
Tree · Tumbaco · 2018
An African tulip tree lives at the heart of this house. It is the central axis and the true protagonist of the design.
A reflecting pool surrounds it, mirroring the sky and the landscape. The tree organizes the plan and offers a deep sense of peace and contemplation.
Double-height social areas, views of Cotopaxi volcano from the master bedroom and a glass bridge between volumes turn every walk into a stroll through the canopy.
